This section deals with all the character profiles on this site be it pending, active or adoptable. Characters posted in the Helpdesk are awaiting Staff approval, which we try to get to as soon as possible. Adoptables will include both canon and non-canon characters that are up for adoption pending an RP sample approval and filled in template in the pending boards. All rider and non-rider profiles will be filed away under their respective groupings. (i.e. Gold, Bronze, etc..)

High Reaches Weyr

No New Posts Hatching Grounds

The hatching sands of High Reaches Weyr. A deep, oblong oval which is wider in the middle and tapering to the outer sides. The Stands reach from each tip of the oval, around one long side and back and upward at a slope from the edge creating a large, almost coliseum-type stage for the Candidates, no matter where the eggs are hardening. Each person has ample view of the sands, though those closer to the edge have the best seating. The higher up you go, the farther back you are from the sands.

The women's barracks are split into the mature riders side, and the Weyrling side. Female Weyrlings are not afforded any more space than their male counterparts, though they are slightly more private. They are separate little rooms carved into a large cavern's walls that can house the weyrlings and their dragon. The female rider rooms are so few and far between that they have one special amendment - a private thermal pool for all of the female Weyrlings and Riders to use.

Locations found within the weyr bowl itself. The weyr bowl is home to the lake dragons bathe in, weyrling and rider training grounds, as well as feeding grounds for the dragons. Because of the varying levels of the Weyr, Weyrlings and their dragonettes can be found here ferrying weyrfolk up and down as needed. There are also sections of the bowl that are dedicated to growing herbs and vegetables that will thrive in the weyr's soil and climate.

The central hive of the Weyr is the Caverns are where you will find all of your domestic needs met. Within you will find where everyone eats, sleeps, visits, raises children, keeps stores stocked, bathes and generally goes about their business. Just outside of this area is a wooden building massive enough to house all the people necessary to feed thousands - the Kitchens!

High Reaches Weyr is unique in it's rider quarters. The higher up you go, the larger and more ornate the rooms. Those ranked lowest, the Weyrlings, have their own barracks that are nearest the ground so that the young dragons do not injure themselves or their bonded. The Weyrlingmaster and their Weyrling Assistants quarters are located on this level to have easy access to their young charges, though their rooms are large and as decorated as their rank provides. The male Weyrlings are located to the left of the Weyrlingmaster rooms, and both the female weyrlings barracks and female riders rooms are located to the right. Above their level is the unranked riders of all colors. Up another level is the Wingseconds and Wingleader's medium-sized quarters. The highest level is where Senior and Junior Queens, their Weyrwomen and the Weyrleader are located. These rooms are the largest, and can be pretty much anything their occupants desire.

Because High Reaches Weyr is so far up the side of a volcano, the wilds outside are hard to get to without getting a dragon escort. Greenriders meet the tithe trains and load up the bundles and crates of supplies to ferry to the store rooms. Those that wish to visit are often brought the same way. The Watchrider and his dragon will announce visitors waiting to be brought up. The base of the extinct volcano is surrounded by beautiful mountain sides, forested areas, large bodies of water and Nabol Hold is not far from the banks of the river if riders wished to visit or Search. North of the Weyr is a massive body of water that feeds the freshwater river where riders often take their dragons to fish. This same river feeds into the sea further down.

A Weyr situated in the small mountainous area, Far Isles Weyr is dedicated to the raising of young dragonets. It is much smaller than a typical Weyr and lacks many of the usual features. The Weyr is a series of small mountains that surround a flat, open expanse that serves as the Weyr Bowl. The small mountains are littered with naturally made caves that serve as weyrs for the dragonets and riders. Ground level has two connected caves that are large enough to serve as the Dining Hall and Kitchens. An off shoot of the kitchens is another cave-like area with small rooms that serve as the Storage Rooms for the supplies of Far Isles Weyr.

Western Isle is surrounded by clear, warm sea water which gets deeper and darker the farther out you go. Two natural zones that seemed to develop specifically for the needs of the wild herdbeasts and roaming wild wherry take up much of the western part of the island. In the center a massive freshwater lake dominates which is fed by the river that runs through the Weyr Bowl. Between the west and east parts of the isle is an inlet that is discovered to have the best fishing. On the east side of the isle is a cove where Firelizard eggs are discovered and is since named Firelizard Cove. Not far from that is the first point of between for the explorers. Two rivers, fed by the mountains and a natural spring in the wilds, converge on the East Bank beach where first flights are held and where Vleyth made his crash landing. These two freshwater rivers feed into the ocean, creating brackish water. In the far north of the isle is another small cove, referred to as Rider's Cove, that serves as a common area for socializing and working on crafts. Weyrlings are taught their lessons here. The Crafthalls

The Crafthalls of Pern are spread throughout the continent, from the Fishers in Tillek to the Vintners at Benden. They produce every valuable product created in Pern, and have their own ranks and standardization that they use to ensure quality pieces. Each Crafthall is considered the highest authority in their area of expertise. While every Craft has their own Crafthall, many of them also have some presence in the Holds and Weyrs, especially the Healers and Herders. Bakers, Artists, Traders, Inventors and Vinters can be found all over Pern and are not always associated with any particular Crafthall.

High Reaches is known for being windy and often bleak its winters deadly to those without a home. In place of normal runners High Reaches often use llamas and the animal’s fur is often used by the local Weavercraft Hall to line garments for warmth and style. Fortified liquors are popular in High Reaches though many outsiders find it a bit strong. High Reaches Hold is run by Lord Holder Izayan.
